High-speed winds blast northwest Iowa
Denizens of northwest Iowa were advised to keep their mouths closed and eyes shut tight April 14 due to high-speed winds that ripped through the region.
Dirt and dust in the air made the sky hazy throughout the day as steady wind gusts of 50 mph or greater blew through. According to the National Weather Service's Sioux Falls bureau, the Spencer airport reported wind speeds topping out at 60 mph.
Things gradually died down over the next two days, but Sunday presented its own surprise – a snowy Easter.
