Postseason meets on tap for H-M-S teams

Both track and field teams from Hartley-Melvin-Sanborn will compete in a Class 1A state qualifying meet on Thursday, May 12 at Lawton. Events begin at 4 p.m. Other competing teams will be Akron-Westfield, Gehlen Catholic, G-LR, Harris-Lake Park (boys), Lawton-Bronson, MMCRU, River Valley, Siouxland Christian, South O’Brien, Remsen St. Mary’s, Trinity Christian, Westwood and Whiting.

Qualifiers from the meet will advance to the state track and field meet, May 19-21, at Des Moines.

The first round of the girls’ Class 1A regional golf tournament will be played Friday, May 13, at Primghar Golf and Country Club. Golfers from H-M-S will compete with those from Boyden-Hull, Central Lyon, Gehlen Catholic, George-Little Rock, Kingsley-Pierson, MMCRU, Remsen St. Mary’s and South O’Brien (host).

Team and individual qualifiers from first-round meets at Graettinger, Ogden and Primghar will advance to the regional final on Wednesday, May 18, at Newell.

H-M-S JV track results at Wolverine Relays

Junior varsity events were also held at the Wolverine Relays at Paullina.

In girls’ JV, Kayla Kathman finished fourth (6:33.22) and Juliana Pasillas was fifth (6:33.22) in the 1500-meter run. Anna Vander Veen placed fifth in the shot put (26’1-1/2”). Madyson Torres, Kelly Buhrmann, Luna Buchler Alonso and Jamie Diaz finished third in the 4x100 relay (1:05.14), and Torres, Buhrmann, Diaz and Megan Otto placed third in the 4x200 (2:20.91).

Hawk JV boys’ results included a fourth-place finish by Damien Hansen in the shot put (33’11-1/2”) and a sixth-place effort by George Vargas, Aiden Bush, Gavin Faulkner and Aiden Jensen in the 4x100 relay (:56.29).
