H-M-S girls finish sixth in first-round play at Primghar

Gracie Knobloch was H-M-S's highest finisher at the regional first-round meet, shooting 106 for 18 holes.
Hartley-Melvin-Sanborn saw its girls' golf season come to an end on May 13 during Class 1A regional first-round play at Primghar Golf and Country Club.
The Hawks finished sixth among eight competing teams with a combined score of 450, and did not qualify to advance to the finals.
"We knew going into regionals that the Primghar course would be a challenge for us. We definitely could have shot better, but as a whole I was proud of the girls," said Hawk coach Cheryl Kroese.
Gracie Knobloch recorded the highest individual finish for H-M-S, finishing 13th with an 18-hole score of 106 (57-49). Also playing were Kinsey Schirmer, 22nd, 114 (54-60); Kaley Pearson, 24th, 115 (59-56); Elise Haack, 25th, 115 (59-56); Megan Ten Kley, 28th, 117 (58-59); and Emma Schmillen, 37th, 123 (65-58).
Central Lyon (386) and Remsen St. Mary's (428) finished first and second to advance to the finals. Kingsley-Pierson (428) lost the tie-breaker and finished third. Other team scores were Gehlen Catholic 446, Boyden-Hull 447, South O'Brien 466 and MMCRU 473. George-Little Rock had only one player compete.
Kroese was happy with the Hawks' improvement during the season and is looking forward to 2023.
"As a team and individuals I saw great growth in the girls," she said. "I am excited to have six players who will be returning next year and have high expectations for us. I think the girls enjoyed getting some team wins and I saw their competitive attitudes come out, which was exciting."
Seniors who conclude their high school careers are Kaley Pearson and Megan Ten Kley.
"I truly appreciated my two seniors. Megan and Kaley are super young ladies and worked very hard all season," Kroese said. "They both play the game with heart and I will miss them being part of the team next year."
