H-M-S girls move up WEC golf standings

Having finished ninth a year ago at the War Eagle Conference girls’ golf tournament and in the dual standings, Hartley-Melvin-Sanborn moved up two spots in 2022.

H-M-S was the seventh-place team at the conference tournament on May 10 at The Ridge Golf Club in Sioux Center. The Hawks’ overall score was 453.

“Overall we had a great day,” said Hawk coach Cheryl Kroese.

Kinsey Schirmer finished 14th overall with an 18-hole score of 107 (55-52). Elise Haack came in 19th (50-59, 109), Emma Schmillen was 36th (58-60, 118), Gracie Knobloch was 39th (63-56, 119), Kaley Pearson was 42nd (63-58, 121) and Megan Ten Kley finished 47th (63-62, 125).

“I was very proud of Elise and Kinsey for placing in the Top 20,” Kroese said.

Overall, Remsen St. Mary’s finished with a 400 team score to win the tournament. Akron-Westfield was second at 411, followed by Hinton 420, Unity Christian 432, Gehlen Catholic 435, Harris-Lake Park 440, H-M-S 453, South O’Brien 458 and MMCRU 466.
