Daycare fundraising event planned

The Hartley Community Daycare Center has announced its 3rd Annual Love for the Daycare Fundraiser. The event will be held on Saturday, June 18 at the Hartley Community Center.

Register now for VBS in Hartley

Families with children ages 4 through sixth grade should register them for Vacation Bible School. VBS will be held Sunday-Thursday, June 5-9, from 6-8:30 p.m. at Grace Fellowship Church in Hartley. Volunteers are also needed.

6-on-6 event planned in Everly this Sunday

The Everly Heritage Museum is hosting a luncheon on Sunday, June 5 focusing on the history of 6-on-6 basketball in Iowa. Keynote speaker Dr. Jennifer Sterling, a lecturer in the Department of American Studies at the University of Iowa, will share insights and stories from those attending

Trivia night in Everly is Friday

The Hap Ketelsen Community Center in Everly will be hosting a themed trivia contest on Friday, June 3. Prizes will be awarded to the winning table, and door prizes will also be handed out throughout the evening.

Snacks available and bar opens at 6 p.m. with trivia to follow at 7 p.m. Tables of 2-6 people are welcome. Cost is $5 per person.

Pool donation push in Hartley

It’s not too late to donate to Hartley’s new pool. The Hartley Community Pool Campaign is making a push for donations prior to the pool’s opening later this month.

Camp craft night for adults at HPL

In keeping with the summer library program theme of “Reading Off the Beaten Path,” Hartley Public Library will be hosting a camp craft night for adults at 6:30 p.m. on Tuesday. June 7. Participants will be making beaded bookmarks, paracord bracelets and/or friendship bracelets.

Emerald ash borer meeting June 15 at Lakeside Lab

Iowa State University Extension and Outreach will host an informational meeting concerning emerald ash borer on Wednesday, June 15, from 6-7:30 p.m. at Mahan Hall at Lakeside Laboratory. The site is located at 1838 Highway 86, Milford.

Emerald ash borer is a small beetle that kills all species of ash trees. The pest’s presence has been confirmed in Dickinson and Clay counties, and many others in Iowa.

The meeting will address homeowners’ questions and help guide them in deciding their next steps. Attendees can expect to learn how to identify emerald ash borer and signs of infestation in trees; what treatment options are available and how to know if a tree is a candidate for treatment; and ash tree identification and replacement options.

The meeting will feature Dr. Donald Lewis, ISU Professor and Extension Entomologist; Mike Kintner, Emerald Ash Borer Coordinator with the Iowa Department of Agriculture and Land Stewardship; and Amber Geigle, Forestry Specialist with the Iowa Department of Natural Resources.

Regular hours at Royal library

Hours at the Royal Public Library are Monday, Wednesday, Thursday and Friday, 3-5 p.m .; and Tuesday and Saturday, 9:30-11:30 a.m.

HLC food pantry

Current hours for the food pantry at Hope Lutheran Church in Everly are Wednesdays, 1-5 p.m. Everyone is allowed to come in and pick out their food, but masks are required.

Al Anon meetings

Al Anon meetings are held at the following locations each week:

Wednesday, 8 p.m., 511 Southmoor, Spencer; Thursday, 8 p.m., Bethlehem Lutheran Church, Royal; Sunday, 7 p.m., Sanford Medical Center, 118 N 7th Ave., Sheldon.
