Serving O'Brien & Clay Counties
Last week the residents of Riverview Terrace Assisted Living were treated to a trip through Japan thanks to a presentation delivered by Clay Raider 4-H'er Kate Holtz.
Holtz's presentation was all self-written and taught, as she is an avid hobby/researcher and enjoys learning and reading in her free time. She dressed in a traditional Kimono given to her by her piano teacher Lynn Wilms. Kate had a presentation board filled with fun facts and interesting information, too.
The teacher eventually became student. After her presentation, Holtz learned of residents that had actually lived in Japan. One was a woman who was a missionary there for the Lutheran Church, one gentleman had been there for rest and recuperation during his time in the Korean War, and another had spent time there enroute at the closing of World War II just as Nagasaki was bombed.
Needless to say, Holtz's presentation was a complete hit with residents and staff.
Her speaking and presentation skills were honed during her time there, which will come in handy as she is readying for utilizing her Japan program during the upcoming 4-H Achievement Days in July and for the Clay County Fair in September.
If you or someone you know has a speech or presentation you'd like to present before long-term care residents, area nursing homes and assisted living facilities are always eager to have visitors stop by. Contact your local facility today for further information.
