Agreements approved for digital stream broadcasts
Costs for most goods and services may be rising, but there will be few increases in fees for the 2022-23 school year at Hartley-Melvin-Sanborn.
The schedule approved by the board on Monday only calls for increases in activity ticket prices, which are due to changes in gate admissions. Superintendent Patrick Carlin said meal prices will be determined by the state at a later date.
The district will charge a fee for school-related credit card transactions to JMC. The $1.50 fee is at the lower end of the range JMC charges for those transactions. During discussion last month, board members felt the district should not absorb those costs.
Agreements were also approved for video stream broadcasts of athletic events and equipment to enhance the district's video capabilities. Fuller Digital Solutions will broadcast events free to the public and will be responsible for associated broadcast costs. The district agrees to provide reasonable accommodations for the broadcast team.
The board also approved a separate agreement with Agile Sports Technologies (Hudl) for subscriptions for sports and performing arts; outdoor camera for football, including sideline premium availability; and an indoor camera for basketball.
The annual cost per year of the Hudl agreement is $8,000. In its agreement, Fuller Digital Solutions commits $2,000 annually to be used in facilitating the Hudl camera system.
In other business, Prairie Farms was the successful bidder to provide milk to the district. Their proposed prices were lower than those of Kemps. Casey's Bakery was the only bidder to provide bread products.
Rates of pay for athletic officials during 2022-23 will be in accordance with information presented to the board in April. Increases range from $5 to $25 per official. The largest increases are for officials at high school track meets and junior varsity basketball doubleheaders.
According to discussion, the increased pay rates are in line with those of area districts.
Also on the agenda, Board Secretary Emily Widvey was named district treasurer and a contract was issued to Steve Waechter as a middle school football coach. Also approved was the continuation of nursing services by Universal Pediatrics for two students who need them.
Two out-of-state trip requests were approved. The high school baseball team's trip is to the College World Series in Omaha, Neb., and the football team will be participating in a camp in the Kansas City area next month.
Coach Jay Eilers told the board that fundraising for the football camp is nearly complete. He expects the remaining amount to be raised by July 1. In addition to coaches, another adult has volunteered to accompany the group.
"I think that supervision will be good," Eilers said.
In a presentation to the board last month, Eilers said the camp will include competitions among participants as well as an opportunity to expose H-M-S athletes to others in an urban setting.
"It is football, but it's a lot deeper than that," he said.
