Blood donors combine to sustain over 380 lives
A total of 31 units of blood were collected during the drive held in Hartley on June 22. The blood collected will help to save and sustain the lives of 81 people in need.
Four donors who achieved milestone donations are Keith Stoltz and Larry Espey, one gallon; Douglas Nagel, five gallons; and Randall Kramer, nine gallons. Together these four individuals have donated 128 pints of blood, sustaining the lives of over 384 people. LifeServe Blood Center encourages area residents to thank those four individuals for their amazing dedication to saving lives through blood donation.
The volunteer sponsor group for the blood drive was Audrey Schmidt and the Hartley Community Center.
Graduates from UNI
Taylor Grohe, of Hartley, was among the 1,310 spring graduates at the University of Northern Iowa in Cedar Falls. Grohe graduated with a Bachelor of Social Work degree in Social Work.
Local students on NWC dean’s list
Erik Vander Laan and Christina Mueggenberg, students at Northwestern College in Orange City, earned spots on the academic dean’s list for the spring 2022 semester.
The dean’s list is comprised of students who have achieved a semester grade point average of 3.50 or above while carrying a minimum of 12 graded hours. This semester, 369 students qualified for the dean’s list. Of them, 245 students earned a GPA of 3.75 or higher and are considered Collegiate Scholars.
Vander Laan, of Hartley, is a 2022 graduate majoring in computer science. Mueggenberg, of Everly, is a senior majoring in graphic design. Both are Collegiate Scholars.
Named to spring dean’s list at UNI
Chloe Kahl, of Everly, and Taylor Grohe, of Hartley, were named to the spring 2022 semester dean’s list at the University of Northern Iowa in Cedar Falls.
To be included on the list, a student must have earned a grade point of 3.5 or higher on a 4.0 scale, while taking at least 12 hours of graded work during the semester.
Boyd graduates from BSC
David Boyd, of Sanborn, graduated from Bismarck State College, N.D., with an Associate in Applied Science degree in Process Technology.
Students who completed the coursework to earn degrees from BSC in Fall 2021, Spring 2022 and Summer 2022 were eligible to walk across the stage to receive their diplomas during the commencement ceremony on May 13 in the Bismarck Event Center.
Tewes given employee award
Peggy Tewes, of Hartley, was named Employee of the Period at Hardee’s in Sheldon this month. The honor was bestowed on Tewes by Hardee’s general manager Sue Bonestroo “in recognition of excellent achievements,” according to the certificate.
