• Vehicle goes wrong way
A vehicle that had been driving the wrong way contributed to an accident at 9:40 p.m. on July 24.
According to the O’Brien County Sheriff’s Office, a 2007 Nissan Xterra driven by Celia Rubi Chilel-Chavez, 21, of Bellevue, Neb., was northbound in the southbound lane of Northwest Boulevard. Several people stopped and signaled that Chilel-Chavez was going the wrong way. She made a U-turn to face south, parked on the right shoulder and then turned left and attempted to cross both southbound lanes of traffic. A 2014 Honda Pilot driven by Jodi Lynn Vogel, 52, of Sioux Center, was southbound when Chilel-Chavez’s vehicle turned in front of her. The Honda rolled approximately six times and came to rest on its roof.
Chilel-Chavez and Vogel were transported by Ashton EMS to Sanford Sheldon Medical Center with possible injuries. Damage amounts were $15,000 for the Honda and $4,000 for the Nissan. Chilel-Chavez was cited for No Valid Driver’s License, Failure to Yield to Passing Vehicle and Careless Driving.
