Football teams to scrimmage at Spirit Lake

The football teams from Hartley-Melvin-Sanborn and Spirit Lake will give fans a taste of the upcoming season during a scrimmage on Friday, Aug. 19. The scrimmage will be held at Hafer Field in Spirit Lake, starting at 6 p.m.

"It will not look like a varsity football game," said Hawk coach Jay Eilers. "It will be varsity versus varsity and JV versus JV. We plan to run 24 to 27 plays on offense and defense for the varsity."

Spirit Lake is asking for donations of Gatorade as admission to the scrimmage.

The Hawks begin their regular season varsity schedule on Friday, Aug. 26, at West Sioux (Hawarden).

Volleyball action at H-M-S begins with a JV tournament hosted by George-Little Rock on Monday, Aug. 22. The varsity Hawks will compete in the West Lyon tournament on Tuesday, Aug. 23 at Inwood.
