Serving O'Brien & Clay Counties
rs for his volunteerism during the 2022 Iowa State Fair.
Al Grigg was inducted into the Iowa 4-H Hall of Fame on Aug. 21 during a special ceremony in the 4-H Exhibit Building. The longtime 4-H booster joined others from across Iowa during the event, which is held annually to honor a new class of inductees.
Since 1972, Grigg has been involved with local 4-H and FFA events. These events have included quiz bowls, judging for FFA contests, assisting students with learning and preparation of skills, AgCiting at the Clay County Fair, Tractor & Farm Safety instructor, KICD Annual tractor ride, tractor pull event at the Clay County Fair, area Spelling Bee announcer, and judging and announcing at local county fair livestock events. In addition to time leading young 4-H individuals and others in the community or county, Grigg served on the Clay County Extension Council as well as the Iowa State Extension Council. He has always been a believer in the younger generation and trusts that any time dedicated to the youth will create better skills for those individuals he encounters.
The Iowa 4-H Hall of Fame was established in 2002 as 4-H celebrated 100 years of a program dedicated to teaching youth life skills. During those 100 years, it became evident that one of the essential elements of the 4-H program was the caring adults who were committed to the program.
Inductees into the Iowa 4-H Hall of Fame represent the many people in Iowa who have contributed countless hours to the 4-H program. They work tirelessly to see that Iowa's youth have a great learning experience in a safe and fun environment. These adults have modeled volunteerism, community service, integrity, and leadership to Iowa's youth. Their legacy is the young people they have mentored who will in turn support the continuation of a 4-H program that builds Iowa's leaders.
