2022 H-M-S Homecoming Court

Homecoming festivities run Sept. 12-16

Homecoming festivities at Hartley-Melvin-Sanborn kick off next Monday and run through Friday, when the Hawks take on MMCRU at Peterson Field at 7 p.m. Coronation is slated for Tuesday, Sept. 13 in the H-M-S Event Center at 7 p.m.

The pep rally is set to begin Friday, Sept. 16 at 12:45 p.m., with the parade to follow at 2:15 p.m. in downtown Hartley. The community is invited to participate.

Ten seniors are vying for the king and queen crowns next week.

Queen Candidates

Morgan Grooters, of Sanborn, is the daughter of April and David Grooters. She is involved in volleyball, band, dance, basketball cheer, golf, softball, fall ball, youth group, girls league, FFA, 4-H, FCA and National Honor Society.

Grooters' favorite thing about school is the social part and getting to see everyone. Her favorite memory is the basketball student section at home games.

She plans to attend a four-year college to get a degree in social work.

Elise Haack, of Sanborn, is the daughter of Ryan and Erica Haack. She is involved in band, volleyball, basketball, golf, FCA and FRC youth group.

Her favorite thing about school is getting to see her friends every day, while her favorite memory is beating South O'Brien in literally anything.

Haack plans to attend the University of Iowa and major in pre-pharmacy.

Cadence Klein, of Hartley, is the daughter of Anton and Tami Klein. She is involved in youth group, softball, fall ball, gymnastics, sand volleyball, FCA and National Society of High School Scholars.

Klein's favorite thing about school is softball. Her favorite memory from school is going to Nashville with the band and choir and dancing everywhere with all her best friends.

She plans to attend a four-year college to major in accounting and business law to obtain her MBA.

Abby Kunzman, of Hartley, is the daughter of Jill and Chad Kunzman. She is involved in volleyball, golf, softball, band, jazz band, student council and National Honor Society.

Her favorite thing about school is sharing laughs and making memories with her teammates and friends, while her best memory is line dancing in Nashville.

Kunzman plans to attend the University of Iowa to become a dermatologist.

Emily Mutombo, of Hartley, is the daughter of Aimerance and John Mutombo. She is involved in volleyball, basketball, track and field, and National Honor Society.

Mutombo's favorite thing about school is study hall, and her best memory is when she and her friend were on their way to the movies and her tire exploded.

She plans to attend an undecided college to become a pediatrician.

King Candidates

Lance Berends, of Hartley, is the son of Jeff and Holly Berends. He is involved in football and basketball.

Berends' favorite things about school are sports and talking to friends, and his best memory is Friday football nights.

He plans to play football at the University of Northern Iowa.

Joseph Billings, of Hartley, is the son of Kent and Jamie Billings. He is involved in FFA, trapshooting and FCS.

Billings' favorite thing about school is being with friends during study halls. His best memory is cooking breakfast in the parking lot.

He plans to continue to get pilot license ratings.

Kooper Ebel, of Hartley, is the son of Korey and Jonna Ebel. He is involved in football, basketball, and track and field.

His favorite thing about school is seeing the boys, and his best memories have been made during Friday night home football games.

Ebel plans to play football at Iowa State University.

Landen Elwood, of Sanborn, is the son of Ashley and Nick Sampson. He is involved in football and basketball.

Elwood's favorite thing about school is study hall and his best memory is playing sports with his friends.

His future plans are undecided.

Travis Kamradt, of Sanborn, is the son of Brad and Angie Kamradt. He is involved in football, basketball, track, National Honor Society and FFA.

His favorite thing about school is hanging out with his friends every day and his best memories were made in junior year sixth period study hall.

His future plans are undecided.
