Shirley Mae Peters, the daughter of Arthur and Loena (Powell) Pfitzenmaier, was born on June 8, 1930, at Primghar. Her childhood years were spent on a farm between Primghar and Hartley. She received her early education at a country school and graduated from Hartley High School in 1949.
Shirley married Wayne Peters on July 30, 1950, at the Methodist Church in Hartley. To this union two children were born: a son, Allen, and a daughter, Carol. Following their marriage Shirley and Wayne farmed for many years northeast of Everly. She was an active member of Hope Lutheran Church in Everly where she served on several church committees and also taught Sunday school and Bible school.
After retiring from farming in 1996, Shirley and Wayne moved to Spencer.
