Lorna Lee Schiphoff, daughter of Arnold and Vernette (Serk) Hein, was born in Sheldon on March 22, 1952. She lived in Ashton until she was 8 years old and then moved to Melvin, where she attended Melvin Community School.
Lorna became the bride of Jonathan “Joe” Schiphoff on Sept. 20, 1969. Two children would eventually complete their family: Michael and Angela. Joe and Lorna had been engaged in farming since 1980; in 1985, they moved to the Schiphoff family farm southeast of Melvin. They have called this place “home” ever since and raised their family there.
Along with managing her household and keeping up with the kids’ activities, Lorna also worked as a bookkeeper at Midwest Farmers Co-op in Sheldon for 18 years. Once she retired, Lorna had more opportunity to work in her garden, help Joe around the farm and spend more time with her children and grandchildren, all whom she dearly loved. She was a member of the First Reformed Church in Melvin.
Lorna peacefully passed from this life on Saturday, Oct. 8, 2022, at the Spencer Hospital surrounded by her family. She was 70 years of age. She was preceded in death by her parents.
Keeping her memory close in heart are her husband of 53 years, Joe Schiphoff, of Hartley; her children: Michael and his wife, Marne Schiphoff, of Sanborn, and Angela and her husband, Tony Graves, of Waterloo; five grandchildren: Jordan Schiphoff, Cade Schiphoff, Kylee Schiphoff, Haley Graves and Joshua Graves; sister, Linda and her husband, Dan Seivert, of Spirit Lake; sister-in-law, Carol and her husband, Norm Rehborg, of Fulda, Minn.; brother-in-law, Gary and his wife, Luie Schiphoff, of Sanborn; nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
