Bull truck will ride again

Council OKs repairs to community staple

Everly's famed bull truck is down, but she's not out.

The city council on Monday signed off on a $1,305 quote for repair expense on the 1941 International truck. It started on fire last weekend prior to a trip to Royal, but a timely response saved it from being completely overcome.

"I love the truck and I don't want to see it go away," said Council Member Shaun Iske. "It's a staple of the community."

Al Grigg was slated to take the bull truck to Royal last weekend for a special holiday-related event. However, after starting it, he noticed the vehicle had ignited.

A fire extinguisher quickly suppressed the flames. The quote for repairs called for a variety of replacement parts, with labor being the most expensive portion of the bill.

The council voted unanimously to proceed with repairs. The bull truck is used in area parades and other events to represent the City of Everly.

"I think it's cool you can still drive it through parades," said Iske. "I'm all for fixing it."

In other business, the council tabled approval of a revised 28E agreement with the Clay County Sheriff's Office pending further review by legal counsel and the sheriff's office. Once approved, the agreement will up the city's contract with the sheriff's office by 10 percent due to increased operational expenses.

The new annual price will rise from $37,880 to $41,338.
