The world was blessed when Joyce Ann Muckey, the daughter of Albert and Helen (Clark) Hurst, was born in Spencer on Aug. 7, 1958. Surrounded by loved ones, Joyce peacefully left this world to be home with the Lord on Tuesday, Dec. 20, 2022, at the age of 64.
Joyce spent her childhood years in Greenville where she received her primary education, and later graduated high school from Clay Central in Royal in 1976. Joyce was blessed to grow up in a family of strong faith and love for the Lord. Throughout her life, Joyce shared her love for the Lord with those around her, especially with her husband, children and grandchildren. Joyce was admired by family and friends alike for her strong values, unconditional love and kindness.
Joyce met the love of her life, Lane Muckey, during the summer of 1977 in Spencer. After some convincing by friends, Joyce agreed to take a motorcycle ride with him. Nine months later, on Feb. 10, 1978, Lane and Joyce were married at the United Methodist Church in Everly. To this union three beautiful children were born: Joshua, Jessica and Marlana. Joyce loved being a mother and was always on the go with her children, ensuring they were involved in church, school and community activities. Joyce was also involved in the community by volunteering to teach Awana, adult Sunday school and being a leader for other activities such as Girl Scouts and Friends of the Library.
Joyce's love for children began at an early age when she began babysitting the neighborhood kids. Later on she began working at The Villager restaurant where she met many lifelong friends and made many memories. One of her favorite places she worked was alongside her brother, Steve, at Hurst Salvage.
Joyce loved showing support to those she loved, attending all her kids' and grandkids' activities and never missed an opportunity to tell her family how much she loved them. She was always a phone call away and her home was always open. Joyce was most happy when her house was full of family and friends. She also enjoyed car rides, rides on the Queen and watching movies with her husband. Together Lane and Joyce built a family legacy full of love and faith, laying a strong foundation for generations to come. Joyce had two priorities in life: God and family. Those who knew her are all blessed to have been influenced by her unwavering love of both.
Joyce is survived by her loving husband of almost 45 years, Lane, of Moneta; her son, Joshua (Kendra) Muckey, of Spencer; two daughters: Jessica (Jack) Jacobs, of Brandon, S.D., and Marlana (Brandon) Tewes, of Peterson; her true pride and joy, 11 grandchildren: Charlie, Spenser, Tian, Kia, Hudson, Lenora, Bentlee, Jasper, Ruxen, London and Frankie; her sister and brothers: Dianne Bryant, of Cookeville, Tenn.; Steve (Connie) Hurst, of Arnolds Park; and Joel (Debbie) Hurst, of Spirit Lake, many nieces, nephews, relatives and friends.
Joyce is preceded in death by her parents, Albert and Helen; her mother and father-in-law, Lenora and Glenn; her sister and brother, Marcia and Philip; and brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law, Mark, Byron, Cheryl and Glenda.
