• Caught driving 118 mph
A Sioux County deputy clocked a vehicle driven by Branden Hengeveld, 26, of Hartley, traveling 118 mph at 5:50 a.m. on Feb. 3, on Highway 60 near Hospers.
After stopping the vehicle, the deputy suspected that Hengeveld had consumed alcohol. Further sobriety testing showed the driver was not intoxicated and just under the legal limit of .08. Hengeveld was transported to the Sioux County Jail where he was charged with reckless driving.
• Arrested on warrant
Mary Korte, 56, was taken into custody at the Clay County Sheriff’s Office, at 3:20 p.m. on Feb. 1. She was arrested on an active Clay County warrant for Fraudulent Practices. Korte was released on $10,000 bond.
• Faces felony drug charge
Dalton Den Hartog-Hopcroft, 21, of Sanborn, was arrested by the Sheldon Police Department on Feb. 2. According to the complaint, Den Hartog-Hopcroft was charged with Assault and Interference with Official Acts, both misdemeanors, after an alleged assault in Sheldon. While searching the suspect, the officer found a folded-up piece of aluminum foil which allegedly contained a blue pill that was cut into small pieces. Den Hartog-Hopcroft admitted the pill was fentanyl.
Den Hartog-Hopcroft was then charged with Possession of a Controlled Substance. As he was convicted twice before on similar charges, the current charge is a Class D felony. Den Hartog-Hopcroft was held at the O’Brien County Jail.
