Next Hartley Legion fish fry is March 17
The Hartley American Legion Family is once again hosting Friday night fish fries on March 17 and March 31. Fried Alaskan Pollock and several side options will be available.

Tickets on sale for HCC VIP night
The Hartley Community Center will host its annual VIP fundraiser on Saturday, March 25. This year’s show will feature an improv comedy act.
Tickets can be purchased by calling (712) 728-2045 or contacting any community center board member. Tickets are also available at Treimer’s Insurance Agency in Hartley and 300 Acres at Business Corner near May City.
CC/E preschool, kindergarten round-up is March 14
Local students and parents are invited to check out what’s new at Clay Central/Everly Elementary on March 14 during the school’s preschool and kindergarten round-up.
Visitors will be able to meet the CC/E staff and tour the school’s updated facilities. Those unable to attend can still register for the 2023-24 school year by calling the elementary at (712) 933-2241.

Northwest Beer Fest is March 25
The Clay County Fair & Events Center will host Northwest Beer Fest on Saturday, March 25.
Beer sampling will be held from 4-7 p.m., with The Johnny Holm Band set to perform starting at 7 p.m.

Grief recovery support group begins March 23
Warner Funeral Home is sponsoring “Circle of Care,” a six-week grief recovery support group for people grieving the death of a loved one. Each week the group will examine a different grief-related topic in a non-threatening setting where participants are encouraged but not forced to share their feelings and, in turn, receive support from others in attendance.
The group will begin meeting on Thursday, March 23, at 6:30 p.m. at Occasions (formerly the Spencer Area Activity Center), 104 E Fourth St., in Spencer.

Chicken meeting is Tuesday night in Everly
Everly residents are encouraged to attend a special council committee meeting on Tuesday, March 14 regarding the possibility of allowing chickens in town.

Current hours for the food pantry at Hope Lutheran Church in Everly are Wednesdays, 1-5 p.m. Everyone is allowed to come in and pick out their food, but masks are required.

Grassley staff to hold local office hours
The staff of Sen. Chuck Grassley (R-Iowa) will hold traveling office hours focused on the 2023 Farm Bill in 14 counties during the months of February and March. Iowans seeking information or wishing to share views on matters related to the Farm Bill may stop by to express their opinions during the scheduled hours.
Regional Director Jacob Bossman and Interim Regional Director Garrett Arbuckle will hold hours in Sutherland on Friday, March 10 from 10-11 a.m., at Gen. N.B. Baker Library, 315 Ash St. Staff from additional Iowa congressional offices are invited and expected to be in attendance. Grassley will not be present.

Storm spotter training class
A storm spotter training program will be offered at Northwest Iowa Community College in Sheldon. The class is scheduled for Monday, March 20, from 6-8 p.m. in Room A116 on the NCC campus.
The class, which is being offered at no cost by the four-county emergency management agencies, will teach participants to identify threatening weather. Environmental emergencies to be covered include tornadoes, lightning, floods and hail.
