Cabin Fever Golf is March 17

The Hartley Chamber of Commerce will hold its annual Cabin Fever Golf event on Friday, March 17. Cost is $10 per green fee.

Participants can tee off between 5-7:30 p.m. at either Fiesta Foods or the Hartley American Legion.

Funeral association annual meeting

The O’Brien Cooperative Funeral Association will hold its annual meeting on Tuesday, March 21 at the Hartley Community Center.

A hot catered meal will be served starting at 6 p.m. See the ad on Page 4 for more details.

Next Hartley Legion fish fry is March 17

The Hartley American Legion Family will host its next fish fry on Friday, March 17. Fried Alaskan Pollock and several side options will be available.

The Hartley Community Center will host its annual VIP fundraiser on Saturday, March 25. This year’s show will feature an improv comedy act.

Grace Fellowship Community Preschool will hold its registration night for 3-year-olds on Monday, March 27, from 5:30-6:30 p.m.

Grief recovery support group begins March 23

Warner Funeral Home is sponsoring “Circle of Care,” a six-week grief recovery support group for people grieving the death of a loved one. Each week the group will examine a different grief-related topic in a non-threatening setting where participants are encouraged but not forced to share their feelings and, in turn, receive support from others in attendance.

The group will begin meeting on Thursday, March 23, at 6:30 p.m. at Occasions (formerly the Spencer Area Activity Center), 104 E Fourth St., in Spencer.

HLC food pantry open Wednesdays

Current hours for the food pantry at Hope Lutheran Church in Everly are Wednesdays, 1-5 p.m. Everyone is allowed to come in and pick out their food, but masks are required.

Property tax installments due March 31

The second half installment of property taxes is due Friday, March 31. In Clay County, payments may be made Monday-Friday, from 8 a.m.-4:30 p.m. in the treasurer’s office located at 300 West 4th Street in Spencer. They may be also made by mail or dropped off in the boxes on the north and south side of the Administration Building.

Property tax information may be obtained online at http://www.iowatreasurers.org or by calling the treasurer’s office at (712) 262-2179. Transaction fees apply to payments made online by E-check or with the use of debit and cards.

According to Clay County Treasurer LeAnn Black, payment of the second installment must be received in her office or postmarked by March 31 in order to avoid penalty.

Regular hours at Royal library

Hours at the Royal Public Library are Monday, Wednesday, Thursday and Friday, 3-5 p.m .; and Tuesday and Saturday, 9:30-11:30 a.m.

Al Anon meetings scheduled

Al Anon meetings are held at the following locations each week:

Wednesday, 8 p.m., 511 Southmoor, Spencer; Thursday, 8 p.m., Bethlehem Lutheran Church, Royal; Sunday, 7 p.m., Sanford Medical Center, 118 N 7th Ave., Sheldon.

Ladies Night Out at Spencer Hospital

Women are encouraged to take time for themselves and enjoy a “Ladies’ Night Out” health and wellness event on Thursday, March 23 between 5-7 p.m. at Spencer Hospital.

The hospital’s Ladies Night Out is a come-and-go event that will be held on the first floor of Spencer Hospital in the Women’s Health suite and hospital cafeteria. Several booths staffed by health professionals will be set up, providing an opportunity to gather valuable women’s health information. Nutritious snacks and a gift bag will be given to the first 50 attendees

Several activities are planned during the event, including mammograms. Call Clay County Public Health to see if you qualify for Care for Yourself coverage at (712) 264-6380. Public Health is also helping coordinate the scheduling of mammograms during the Women’s Night Out event for anyone interested, so the same phone number can be used for anyone scheduling a screening exam for that evening.

Other highlights include massages. Several experts will be on hand to provide information about nutrition, breast health, gynecological health, occupational and physical therapy, heart health, and diabetes education.

While pre-registration is encouraged for screening mammograms and the massages provided by Iowa Lakes, if schedules allow, walk-ins will be welcomed.
