Members of the Hartley-Melvin-Sanborn boys' track and field team saw their first competition of the 2023 season during the Iowa Association of Track Coaches (IATC) indoor championships at Ames on March 9.
Kooper Ebel and Ryan Borden competed in the 60-meter dash, finishing 18th (:07.24) and 93rd (:07.63) overall. Bradley Zamudio finished 70th overall in the 60-meter hurdles, running a time of :09.43.
The Hawks also competed in four relay events. They finished 44th in the 4x100 (:46.47), 48th in the 4x800 (10:10.53), 61st in the 1600-meter distance medley (4:05.90) and 64th in the 4x400 (3:56.94).
In the long jump, Ethan Diehm placed 29th overall (19'8-1/2") and Zamudio was 97th (16'4-3/4"). Competing in the shot put were Damion Hansen, 108th, 35'4-3/4"; and Jacob Cates, 109th, 35'1-1/2".
