Kooper Ebel to play in Iowa Shrine Bowl All-Star Classic

Game to be played July 22 at UNI-Dome in Cedar Falls

Area high school football players selected to play in the 2023 Iowa Shrine Bowl All-State Classic were introduced during a recognition day event on March 8 at Spencer.

Kooper Ebel, a senior at Hartley-Melvin-Sanborn High School, is among 46 players named to the North Team for the all-star football game to be played on July 22, at the UNI-Dome in Cedar Falls.

Participating in the Iowa Shrine Bowl has become an Ebel family tradition. Korey Ebel, Kooper's father, was a member of the North Team for the 1998 game.

Other area players named to this year's North Team are Kylar Fritz, Sioux Center; Zach Lutmer, Central Lyon/George-Little Rock; Brock Fisher, Boyden-Hull/Rock Valley; Evan Snyders, West Lyon; Caden Meyer, Newell-Fonda; Gavin DeHoogh and Derek Heynen, Western Christian; and Logan Huckfelt, Spencer;

The Iowa Shrine Bowl All-Star Classic is an annual event that features 92 of Iowa's best high school football players. Players attend camp to prepare for the game as well as learn about the impact they can have on less-fortunate children. The highlight of the week is the Shriners' Children Mini-Camp, when patients from Shriners Children's Hospitals join players to play games and share stories.

Funds raised during the Iowa Shrine Bowl are distributed to Shriners' Children orthopedic hospitals and burn centers in the Midwest and to each center's transportation fund to transport patients to and from hospitals and clinics. As of 2022, nearly $3 million has been raised for Shriners' Children.
