Final Hartley Legion fish fry is Friday
The Hartley American Legion Family will host its next fish fry on Friday, March 31. Fried Alaskan Pollock and several side options will be available.
The event will be held at the Hartley American Legion Hall from 5-7 p.m. See the ad on Page 6 for more details.
Fish fry and carnival planned at CC/E
Clay Central/Everly Elementary will host its annual fish fry on Friday, March 31. Carninval games with prizes will also be held in the gym.

Trinity UCC Beef Supper is April 5
Trinity United Church of Christ in Hartley will hold its annual beef supper on Wednesday, April 5 from 5-7 p.m. The menu features roast beef with all the trimmings.

EFR to honor Lefty Ginger this Sunday
Everly Fire & Rescue will hold a benefit for Roger "Lefty" Ginger on Sunday, April 2 from 11 a.m.-2 p.m. at the Hap Ketelsen Community Center.

Easter egg hunts planned in area
Sanborn: The Sanborn First Reformed Church will hold a community Easter egg hunt on Saturday, April 1 at 10 a.m. The event will be held on the church's lawn.
Royal: Royal Community Action will host an egg hunt at Royal City Park on Saturday, April 1 at 10 a.m. Ages 17 and under are welcome.
Hartley: Community Memorial Health Center and the I.E.F. Club will host their annual egg hunt at CMHC on Saturday, April 8 at 10 a.m. Ages 0-10 are welcome, and all participants will receive a prize.
Children will be split into three different age groups. Please park in the Grace Fellowship parking lot.
Everly: The Clay County Countrymen 4-H Club and Everly Lions Club will host an Easter egg hunt at Everly Community Park on Saturday, April 8 at 10 a.m. Children ages 0-10 are welcome to participate.

Movie events at Hartley library
Hartley Public Library will host a screening of the new movie "A Man Called Otto" on Monday, April 3 at 6 p.m. The movie is based on the book "A Man Called Ove" by Fredrick Backman. Popcorn and drinks will be provided.
On Tuesday, April 4, the library will host a teen movie event. "Where the Crawdads Sing" will be shown at 4 p.m. Popcorn and drinks will be provided.
State Legion commander to appear at Hartley fish fry
The Hartley American Legion Family will host a special guest Friday during its final fish fry of the year.
Randy Johnson, commander of the Iowa American Legion, will visit the City With a Heart. He will offer remarks during the fish fry and greet patrons at the event.
Johnson was born and raised in Deep River, Iowa. He graduated from Deep River-Millersburg High School in 1978 and enlisted in the Air Force in 1980. He spent the next two decades serving his country and is a Desert Shield/Desert Storm veteran, deploying to the Gulf serving with the 1610th Air Division (Provisional) in Saudi Arabia and later with U.S. Central Command in Iraq from August 1990-March 1991.
After his military retirement, Johnson and his wife, Gail, moved their family back to Iowa and began their second life. He has been active in his community as a bar/restaurant owner, served 12 years on the city council and currently serves on the review board for the Greater Poweshiek Community Foundation.
Johnson is a member of Morrison Schrader Post #296 in Deep River, serving in leadership positions at the post, district and department levels. He is also a dual SAL Squadron 296 member.
HLC food pantry
Current hours for the food pantry at Hope Lutheran Church in Everly are Wednesdays, 1-5 p.m. Everyone is allowed to come in and pick out their food, but masks are required.

Property tax installments due this Friday
The second half installment of property taxes is due Friday, March 31. In Clay County, payments may be made Monday-Friday, from 8 a.m.-4:30 p.m. in the treasurer's office located at 300 West 4th Street in Spencer. They may be also made by mail or dropped off in the boxes on the north and south side of the Administration Building.
Property tax information may be obtained online at http://www.iowatreasurers.org or by calling the treasurer's office at (712) 262-2179. Transaction fees apply to payments made online by E-check or with the use of debit and cards.
According to Clay County Treasurer LeAnn Black, payment of the second installment must be received in her office or postmarked by March 31 in order to avoid penalty.

Hours at the Royal Public Library are Monday, Wednesday, Thursday and Friday, 3-5 p.m .; and Tuesday and Saturday, 9:30-11:30 a.m.
