New donors welcome for April 26 blood drive in Hartley

Donors are needed for the Hartley community blood drive on Wednesday, April 26, from 12:30-5:30 p.m. at the Hartley Community Center. New donors are especially welcome.

Food distribution at Trinity UCC

The Food Bank of Iowa’s mobile pantry program will be conducted on Wednesday, April 19, starting at 4 p.m. at Trinity United Church of Christ in Hartley. The program is available free of charge and geared toward individuals in need of food assistance.

Participants are asked to stay in their vehicles and line up on the east side of the parking lot. The food will be brought to you as you drive under the canopy.

Spring clean-up day in Hartley

Hartley will hold its spring clean-up on Monday, April 24. Once trucks pick up refuse on your block, they will not return to pick up more.

Melvin Legion brunch is April 16

Melvin American Legion Post #470 will host its annual brunch on Sunday, April 16 at the Legion building.

OBCCF grant app deadline is April 15

The deadline for submitting an application for this year’s grant cycle for the O’Brien County Community Foundation (OBCCF) is Saturday, April 15. Applications are available online at http://www.siouxlandcommunityfoundation.org under the affiliates tab.

Those eligible to apply include nonprofit organizations and units of local government that serve O’Brien County and are tax exempt under section 501(c)(3) of the Internal Revenue Code. Non 501(c)(3) groups such as service clubs and organizations may apply as long as the group has partnered with an eligible 501(c)(3) organization that has agreed to serve as a fiscal sponsor to receive the grant if awarded.

Upcoming events at Hartley library

The Hartley Public Library will be hosting a seed swap on Tuesday, April 18 at 6:30 p.m.

Don’t need all 1,500 carrot seeds in the package that you bought? Bring them to share with others. Want to grow something out of the ordinary but don’t want to purchase a whole package? Stop in and see what seeds others have to share. There will be lots of flower and vegetable/herb seeds from which to choose.

A digital literacy program will also be held on Tuesday, April 18 at 5 p.m. Participants will learn the basics of today’s digital world. Instruction will be informal and tailored to each participant, and three computers will be available for users.

On Monday, April 24, the library will host Story Time at 10:30 a.m. Later that same day at 6 p.m., the library will hold a program on the extraordinary life of Marion Helland, a local woman who dedicated her life to civil rights service.

This will be a program detailing her life and work, along with some memorabilia and mementos from her nine decades of service. A question and answer time will follow the program.

HLC food pantry

Current hours for the food pantry at Hope Lutheran Church in Everly are Wednesdays, 1-5 p.m. Everyone is allowed to come in and pick out their food, but masks are required.

Monday, April 17: Breakfast – Cereal, pop tart (9-12), fruit, juice; Lunch – Mini corndogs, baked beans, baby carrots, apples.

Tuesday, April 18: Breakfast – Egg and cheese on biscuit, fruit, juice; Lunch – Maid-rites on bun, fries, cucumbers, pears.

Wednesday, April 19: Breakfast – Breakfast pizza, fruit, juice; Lunch – Nachos, red peppers, corn, bread (9-12), bananas.

Thursday, April 20: Breakfast – Pancake and sausage bites, fruit, juice; Lunch – Chicken strips, mashed potatoes, cooked carrots, roll (9-12), pineapple.

Friday, April 21: Breakfast – Donut, fruit, juice; Lunch – Turkey/cheese on bun, chips (9-12), broccoli/cauliflower, peaches.

Milk is served with each meal. Fruit/veggie bar offered daily.

Regular hours at Royal library

Hours at the Royal Public Library are Monday, Wednesday, Thursday and Friday, 3-5 p.m .; and Tuesday and Saturday, 9:30-11:30 a.m.

Al Anon meetings scheduled

Al Anon meetings are held at the following locations each week:
