Schedules released for 2023 and 2024 football seasons

Kingsley-Pierson, Sibley-Ocheyedan new teams for H-M-S

Football schedules for the 2023 and 2024 seasons have been released by the Iowa High School Athletic Association.

Regular season football schedules are determined by the IHSAA. After district and group assignments were approved by the Board of Control in March, schools could select preferred non-district opponents and submit them to the IHSAA through a priority list.

According to the IHSAA, attempts were made to align schedules with as many priority list selections as possible; however, opponents and availability were not guaranteed.

Two teams not on Hartley-Melvin-Sanborn's regular season schedule for the past two years are on the slate for 2023 and 2024. The Hawks will play Kingsley-Pierson for the first time. K-P is in Class A District 8 and is one of H-M-S's two non-district opponents. The other non-district opponent will again be West Sioux.

Sibley-Ocheyedan is the only new team in Class A District 1. The Generals return to the Hawks' schedule for the first time since 2020.

H-M-S's 2023 schedule is as follows: Aug. 25 at West Sioux; Sept. 1 at Alta-Aurelia; Sept. 8 vs. MMCRU; Sept. 15 at Akron-Westfield; Sept. 22 vs. Kingsley-Pierson; Sept. 29 at South O'Brien; Oct. 6 vs. Sibley-Ocheyedan; and Oct. 13 vs. Gehlen Catholic.

H-M-S will play the same teams in 2024 but at the opposite site from those this fall.
