James C. Schwien, 79, Omaha, Neb.

James Charles (Jim) Schwien was born in Tracy, Minn. He was the third of five children born to Melvin and Lois (Conner) Schwien. While still very young the family relocated to the rural Hartley area. He loved the outdoors and the life of a farm boy, but country school days left much to be desired as he had the misfortune of being the only student in his grade. Through the years Jim shared many memories of school years as a student at Hartley High School.

After graduation in 1962, he attended business school in Omaha, Neb. In the spring of 1964 he began work at Union Pacific Railroad. He worked as an IT for 32 years. After retirement he worked as an IT consultant.

Jim married Joan (Thorell) in May of 1973. They adopted their son, Brad, in 1984. Jim was an active member of Rejoice Lutheran Church.

He died on April 17, 2023, at the age of 79. Jim was preceded in death by his parents, Melvin and Lois Schwien; brother, Richard (Dick); brothers-in-law: Pat Fanning and Tim Brewster; and nephew, Jerry Tewes.

Left to remember him in this life are his loving wife, Joan, and son, Brad; his sisters: Marlene (Donnie) Nielsen, Judy Fanning and Connie Brewster. Jim also had nieces, nephews, other relatives and many friends.
