Specialist to begin orthopedic clinic at Hartley Family Care

Dr. Michael Dirkx, orthopedic surgeon and specialist with Northwest Iowa Bone, Joint & Sports Surgeons of Spencer Hospital, will initiate an orthopedic clinic at Hartley Family Care beginning June 1.

Patients will be scheduled the first and third Thursdays of each month.

"Spencer Hospital's new Hartley Family Care clinic provides a wonderful space and opportunity for me to travel to the O'Brien County region, offering more convenient care for patients in need of initial orthopedic assessments and for follow-up care," Dirkx said in a news release.

Spencer Hospital recently installed an updated x-ray unit within Community Memorial Health Center, which will allow medical personnel to capture many of the images needed for orthopedic evaluations.

"I'm looking forward to working with the team at Hartley Family Care to provide services to local patients in need of orthopedic care," said Dirkx.

Dirkx specializes in general orthopedic care and robot-assisted total joint replacement. A native of Carroll, he received his bachelor's degree from Buena Vista University where he competed for the Beavers baseball team. He attended medical school at Des Moines University College of Osteopathic Medicine and completed his orthopedic residency at McLaren Macomb Hospital, Mich.
