Golf, track teams to begin postseason play

Hartley-Melvin-Sanborn's spring sports teams will begin postseason play next week.

The Hawk boys' golf team is assigned to the Class 2A sectional on Wednesday, May 10. Play begins at 10 a.m. at the Rolling Hills Country Club at Hull.

Competing teams will be Boyden-Hull, H-M-S, Hinton, OABCIG, Rock Valley, Sheldon, Sibley-Ocheyedan and West Lyon. Qualifiers to advance to the district meet are the champion and runner-up teams, and the Top 2 overall individuals (plus ties) from among non-qualifying teams. In the event the host school finishes first or second, the third-place team will also advance.

The district meet will be held on Monday, May 15, at the Emerald Hills Golf Club at Arnolds Park.

Girls' regional golf first-round assignments had not been released by the Iowa Girls High School Athletic Union as of press deadline.

Sheldon will host the Class 2A coed track and field state qualifying meet on Thursday, May 11. Field events begin at 4 p.m. with running events to follow at 4:30.

Competing teams will be Central Lyon, Emmetsburg, Estherville-Lincoln Central, H-M-S, Okoboji, Sheldon, Sibley-Ocheyedan, Sioux Central, Unity Christian, West Lyon, West Sioux and Western Christian.

The Top 2 place winners in each event plus the next eight performances statewide will advance to the state meet, May 18-20, at Drake Stadium in Des Moines.
