Serving O'Brien & Clay Counties
Several Hartley-Melvin-Sanborn Middle School students were selected this year to be included in an annual regional publication.
Angie Mayer, 5-6 grade language arts teacher at Hartley-Melvin-Sanborn Middle School, submitted students' work last fall to the Northwest Area Education Agency (NWAEA). The NWAEA each year considers original poetry, short stories and artwork for publication in a compilation called Harvest. NWAEA receives a large amount of submissions each year, as it includes 10 counties in northwest Iowa with almost 70 schools.
The latest Harvest magazine features 17 poems or drawings from 12 H-M-S students whose work was chosen for this honor. Students with poems published are Wyatt Brigham, Alessandra Cibrian, Righardt DeWinnaar, Kaylee Neumann, Aubreyana Stallman, Jaxsen Rieck and Emma Vander Berg. Delilah Boynton and Kate Rodriguez had two poems selected apiece. A photograph of a cow sculpture by Cole Magee was also included, as were three drawings by Derrica Van Loon and two drawings by Kenadie Van Loon.
