• Several charges filed against pair
A Clay County deputy initiated a traffic stop on June 2 in the 3300 mile of 240th Avenue. At that time it was observed that the driver, Jacob Longman, 44, of Estherville, switched places with the passenger, Judy Laue, 65, of Graettinger. It was discovered that Longman had a suspended driver’s license.
After both were taken into custody, a search warrant application was requested and granted for the vehicle, in which marijuana wax, methamphetamine and drug paraphernalia were located.
Longman was charged with Possession of a Controlled Substance-Marijuana and P.C.S.-Methamphetamine, both third offenses and class D felonies, as well as Driving Under Suspension, Reckless Driving, No Insurance, No Seatbelt, Failure to Use Proper Towing Equipment and Possession of Drug Paraphernalia, all simple misdemeanors.
Laue was charged with P.C.S.-Methamphetamine-2nd offense, an aggravated misdemeanor, as well as Reckless Driving, No Seatbelt, No Insurance, Failure to Use Proper Towing Equipment and Possession of Drug Paraphernalia, all simple misdemeanors. Both suspects were held in jail to appear before the magistrate.
The sheriff’s office was assisted by the Spencer Police Department and Bud’s Service.
• Suspicious vehicle leads to arrest
The Clay County Sheriff’s Office received a complaint of a suspicious vehicle, stopped with its doors open near Everly on June 4. The sheriff’s office also received a complaint of a suspicious male approximately 1-1/4 miles east of the original location. Dale Binger, 54, of Willmar, Minn. was located and transported to the Spencer Hospital, where it was determined that he was under the influence.
After he was discharged, Binger was arrested and charged with OWI-1st, a serious misdemeanor; and Stopping, Standing or Parking on the Paved Portion of the Roadway, a simple misdemeanor. He was held to appear before the magistrate.
• Juvenile found with marijuana
During a traffic stop on Highway 10 on June 3, a Clay County deputy smelled the odor of marijuana emanating from the vehicle. A search discovered marijuana, drug paraphernalia and vape products.
The juvenile female, 17, of Peterson, was arrested and cited into Magistrate Court for Violation of Conditions of a Minor’s School License and Minor in Possession of Tobacco, both simple misdemeanors. She was also cited into Juvenile Court for Possession of a Controlled Substance-Marijuana, a serious misdemeanor; and Possession of Drug Paraphernalia, a simple misdemeanor. She was processed through the county jail and released to her mother.
• Charged with D.U.S.
The Clay County Sheriff’s Office reported that during a traffic stop on June 2 in Everly, Kevin Dillingham, 49, of Everly, was found to have a suspended driver’s license. He was charged with Driving Under Suspension and No Insurance, both simple misdemeanors. Dillingham was held in jail to appear before the magistrate.
Also charged with Driving Under Suspension was Autumn Wessling, 22, of LeMars. She was stopped in the 1200 mile of 350th Street on June 7 and it was determined that her license was suspended. Additional charges were No Insurance, No Driver’s License, Speeding and Failure to Give Notice of Address Change, all simple misdemeanors. Wessling was held in jail to appear before the magistrate.
• Arrested on warrants
Hayley Byerly, 27, was taken into custody at the Clay County Sheriff’s Office on May 30 on an active warrant for Violation of Probation. Byerly was held on a $5,000 cash only bond.
The sheriff’s office also reported that Dewayne Jackson, 25, was taken into custody on June 2 on an active warrant for the Original Charge of Domestic Abuse Assault. Jackson was released on $1,000 cash or surety bond.
