Book Club to meet

Between the Covers Book Club will meet to discuss “The Weight of Silence” by Heather Gudenkauf, at 5 p.m. on Tuesday, June 27, at the Hartley Public Library.

Operation Dry Water starts July 1

A group of state, federal and local law enforcement agencies will partner to focus enforcement of Iowa’s boating while intoxicated law as part of the national Operation Dry Water campaign to draw public attention to the hazards of boating under the influence.

Operation Dry Water will run July 1-3. In 2022, the Iowa Department of Natural Resources and its partners contacted more than 1,425 vessels containing 5,253 boaters resulting in 533 citations or warnings as part of Operation Dry Water.

The DNR has partnered with the U.S. Coast Guard, the Army Corps of Engineers, and local police and sheriff’s departments as part of previous Operation Dry Water campaigns.

According to a news release from the DNR, one-third of all boating fatalities nationally involved alcohol and many of those victims were innocent bystanders.

2022 top areas for BWI arrests: Okoboji, 7; Coralville Reservoir, 6; Mississippi River, 5; Missouri River, 5; Rathbun Reservoir, 5; Total BWI, 36.

HLC food pantry

Current hours for the food pantry at Hope Lutheran Church in Everly are Wednesdays, 1-5 p.m. Everyone is allowed to come in and pick out their food, but masks are required.

Al Anon meetings

Al Anon meetings are held at the following locations each week:

Wednesday, 8 p.m., 511 Southmoor, Spencer; Thursday, 8 p.m., Bethlehem Lutheran Church, Royal; Sunday, 7 p.m., Sanford Medical Center, 118 N 7th Ave., Sheldon.

The Okoboji Summer Theatre (OST) has announced its schedule of productions for the 2023 season.

June 27-July 2, “Let It Be”; July 4-9, “See How They Run”; July 11-16, “Promises, Promises”; July 18-23, “Vanya and Sonia and Masha and Spike”; July 25-30, “Cole: A Musical Review”; Aug. 1-6, “Dial ‘M’ for Murder”; and Aug. 8-13, “The Wedding Singer.”
