Services in memory of Clayton H. Schuett were held Friday, June 30, 2023, at St. Joseph Catholic Church in Milford. Fr. Brian Hughes officiated.
Casket bearers were Eric Nitz, Jonathan Schuett, James Nitz, Kyle Schuett, Daniel Schuett and Sam Jennett. Honorary casket bearers were Bob Nitz, Ethan Schuett, Jesse Schuett, Nicole Schuett Jennett, Mikayla Schuett and Natalie Schuett. Interment was in Calvary Cemetery at Milford, with a graveside military service conducted by Milford American Legion Post #384. Warner Funeral Home in Spencer assisted with the arrangements.
Clayton Henry Schuett, the son of Leo H. and Eva (Bell) Schuett, was born, raised and attended grade school in Lincoln Township, O’Brien County. Clayton graduated from Hartley High School in 1949.
Clayton was employed at Fairmont Foods Company in Hartley until being drafted into the U.S. Army in February 1952, serving one year in Korea. Following his honorable discharge, he married Billie Kriens on Nov. 28, 1953. Following their marriage, Clayton worked at the John Deere Implement in Hartley for 12 years before moving to Cherokee, where he was employed with Wilson Foods for 25 years. Clayton and Billie then moved to the lakes area where he worked part time at Village West for the next 20 years.
In his spare time, Clayton enjoyed his boats and travel trailers. He and Billie enjoyed spending winters in Palm Springs, Myrtle Beach and a trip to Europe. Most of all, Clayton loved spending time with his family and friends. He was a member of St Joseph Catholic Church, Knights of Columbus and the American Legion.
Clayton passed away on Saturday, June 24, 2023 at the Avera McKennan Hospital in Sioux Falls, S.D., at the age of 92. He is preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Billie; two brothers: Darwin Schuett and Merle Schuett; one sister, Margaret Grimberg; brothers-in-law: Paul Galm, Eddie Hilbert, Darrel Hennings and Ronald Lee Kriens; one sister-in-law, Colleen Hennings; seven nieces and nephews.
Left to cherish his memory are his four children: Ramona (John) Nitz, of Cherokee; Michael (Patti) Schuett, of Fort Mill, S.C.; Mark Schuett, of Sioux Falls, S.D.; and Tom (Becky) Schuett, of Adel; 11 grandchildren: Bob Nitz, Eric (Tyler) Nitz, James (Kara) Nitz, Jonathan (Alyssa) Schuett, Ethan Schuett, Jesse Schuett, Nicole (Sam) Schuett Jennett, Kyle Schuett, Mikayla Schuett, Daniel Schuett and Natalie Schuett; seven great-grandchildren; two sisters: Shirley Gibbs, of Omaha, Neb.; and Linda Schuett, of Sheldon; one brother, John (Becky) Schuett, of Milford; brothers and sisters-in-law: Delores (Ray) Ransom, of Milford; Peggy (Tom) Muhlbauer, of Milford; Merlyn (Norma) Kriens, of Royal; and Ken (Harry) Kriens, of Pensacola, Fla.; many nieces and nephews; other relatives and friends.
