There's a reason it's called 'Fun Days'

Royal's Fun Days kicked off last weekend with great participation and review.

Friday night started the town's celebration weekend with a well-attended silent auction, bake sale and taco supper fundraiser for upcoming Fun Days events. Silent auction items ranged from weekend getaways to movie night bundles, children's activity baskets and more.

Karaoke night was hosted at Haggy's to round off the first night of fun.

Saturday's busy day of events began with perfect morning weather to run Clay Central/Everly Elementary's first Royal Runner's 5K. The Fun Days Slowpitch Softball Tournament kicked off shortly after, with a grand showing of participating teams.

Downtown was abuzz with DJ Jimmy Mac entertaining the crowds with music and announcing all main street events such as the car show, vendor show, kiddie parade, Toft Electric's ping pong drop, UTV/ATV fun run, motorcycle ride/old car fun run, BINGO, and Cattleman's Grill Out hosted in the Royal Community Center over the noon hour.

Royal's city park hosted more fun events. Free children's attractions like inflatables, balloon art, petting zoo, carnival games and face painting by former CC/E student Beth (Wheeler) Hurst were offered throughout the late morning into late afternoon.

Adjacent from the children's activities at Lion's Grove Horseshoe Pits, where the masses congregated to watch the 16-team horseshoe tournament hosted by Royal Lions Club.

The evening closed with a burger bar and backyard concert by the Jeremy DeWall Band at Haggy's.

The fun didn't stop there, as activities extended throughout the day on Sunday. To begin the day the Royal Fire Department dished up a delicious pancake breakfast through the noon hour. Ceramics at the RFD training building along with take-and-make sign painting and cornhole tournament at Haggy's were the early afternoon events. The day ended with the annual NW IA Tractor Pullers Tractor Pull Event down by the park.
