Naoma Yavonne Schoof, daughter of Peter and Esther (Kraft) Nagel, was born Nov. 2, 1935, in Primghar. She grew up in Hartley where she received her education, graduating from Hartley High School.

Naoma became the bride of Leonard Schoof on Sunday, June 13, 1954, at St. Paul’s Lutheran Church in Hartley. The new couple began their life together in Paullina before moving to Le Mars, then Spencer for a short time, and eventually returning to Paullina where they were engaged in farming. Five children would complete their family: Sharon, Sandy, Susan, Steven and Sherry. Along with taking care of her growing family and helping Leonard on the farm, Naoma was also employed at a local poultry facility. She worked there until her retirement at the age of 75.

Traveling had always been a special enjoyment for Naoma so she took part in several bus tours over the years, seeing new things and making new acquaintances. She volunteered with Hospice, the Prairie View Auxiliary, and helped make quilts with the ladies’ group at St. John’s Lutheran Church where she was a member. She loved to listen to polka music and rarely missed a NASCAR race on TV. While her days were usually kept full, she was never too busy to spend time with her children, grandkids or dear friends.

Naoma passed from this life on Thursday, Aug. 3, 2023, at the age of 87 years, and is now reunited with loved ones who have gone before: her husband, Leonard; daughter, Sharon Fritzsche; sons-in-law: Mark Langholz and David Rohwer; her parents, Peter and Esther Nagel; her sister, Luella Frick; and brother, Elmer Nagel.

Keeping her memory close at heart are her children and their families: Sherry (Lyle) Tifft, of Sanborn, Montana (Mark) Stanton, Brooklyn, Colt and Harper, of Urbandale, and Savanna (Don) Trotter and Brevyn, of Altoona; Susan Langholz, of Spencer, Tammy (Chris) Dexter and Sabastian, of Sioux Falls, S.D., Travis (Leah) Langholz, of Spencer; Sandy Rohwer, of Marcus, Ryan (Katie) Rohwer, Alex and Isla, of Fletcher, N.C.; Steven (Cheryl) Schoof, of Ankeny, and Jessica (Shane) Olson, of Altoona; and Heather Fritzsche, of Spencer, and Joshua (Kristal) Fritzsche, Brianna and Katelyn, of New Haven, Ind.; sisters: Lois (Larry) Klatt, Dalorus Gaudian and Nancy Nagel, all of Hartley; sister-in-law, Ruth Groves, of Weslaco, Texas; other relatives and many friends.
