Community Calendar dates due Aug. 31

The Community Calendar for the communities of Hartley, Melvin and May City will be distributed again this year. Clubs and organizations wishing to list their meeting dates are asked to bring or send them to The Sentinel- News office by Thursday, Aug. 31, at 5 p.m.

H-M-S school activities will also be listed. There is no charge to have meeting dates listed on the calendar.

When the calendars are printed, they will be available as a courtesy of the sponsors.

HLC food pantry

Current hours for the food pantry at Hope Lutheran Church in Everly are Wednesdays, 1-5 p.m. Everyone is allowed to come in and pick out their food, but masks are required.

Red’s Catering menu for Aug. 30

Red’s Catering in downtown Hartley will be serving four carryout specials on Wednesday, Aug. 30 from 11 a.m.-1 p.m.

Upcoming blood drive at Spencer

New and regular donors will have the opportunity to roll up their sleeves and give blood during a drive being conducted by LifeServe Blood Center at Southpark Mall, 901 11th Street SW in Spencer.

The blood drive is scheduled for Monday, Aug. 28, from 9 a.m.-2 p.m. Schedule a blood donation appointment online at lifeservebloodcenter.org or call (800) 287-4903.

Disaster assistance available for livestock losses

The USDA Farm Service Agency administers a Livestock Indemnity Program (LIP) for livestock owners who have livestock deaths exceeding normal mortality caused by eligible adverse weather, such as extreme heat stress.

The livestock owner must provide evidence acceptable to FSA that an eligible loss occurred and was directly caused by extreme heat. Notice of this loss must be filed within 30 days of when the loss of livestock was first apparent to the producer.

For details on eligibility and the documentation process, producers should check with their county FSA office immediately.

Regular hours at Royal library

Hours at the Royal Public Library are Monday, Wednesday, Thursday and Friday, 3-5 p.m .; and Tuesday and Saturday, 9:30-11:30 a.m.

ServSafe course offered Sept. 26 at Orange City

Iowa State University Extension and Outreach is sponsoring ServSafe, the national certification program for food service managers. The course will be held on Tuesday, Sept. 26, from 8:30 a.m.-5:30 p.m. at the Sioux County Extension office in Orange City.

All food service operations are required to have at least one food safety certified staff person. Anyone interested in preparing and serving safe food is welcome to attend.

The cost of the course is $160, which includes eight hours of class time, a manual, and the national certification exam.
