Community Calendar dates due today
The Community Calendar for the communities of Hartley, Melvin and May City will be distributed again this year. Clubs and organizations wishing to list their meeting dates are asked to bring or send them to The Sentinel- News office by Thursday (today), Aug. 31, at 5 p.m.
H-M-S school activities will also be listed. There is no charge to have meeting dates listed on the calendar.
When the calendars are printed, they will be available as a courtesy of the sponsors.
Veterans welcome to ride in Clay County Fair parade
Monday, Sept. 11 is Veterans Day at the Clay County Fair in Spencer. All veterans that day will receive free admission to the fair.
There will be a veterans’ parade at 10 a.m. Merlyn Hennings will be pulling a trailer in the parade. Area veterans who wish to ride on the trailer should be at the staging area, north of the Events Center, by 9:30 a.m.

HLC food pantry
Current hours for the food pantry at Hope Lutheran Church in Everly are Wednesdays, 1-5 p.m. Everyone is allowed to come in and pick out their food, but masks are required.
No meal at Red’s Catering Sept. 6
Red’s Catering in downtown Hartley will not be serving carryout specials on Wednesday, Sept. 6.

Donor count high at blood drive
Forty-seven units of blood, which will potentially sustain the lives of 117 people, were collected during the LifeServe blood drive in Hartley on Aug. 23. Three new donors were added to the list.
Donors achieving milestone donations were: Carl Puhrmann, 18 gallons; Becky Brown, 10 gallons; Norbert Groff, six gallons; and Kimberly Rye, three gallons. Together these four individuals have donated 296 pints of blood, potentially sustaining the lives of over 888 people.
The next drive is scheduled for Wednesday, Oct. 25, from 12:30-5:30 p.m. at the Hartley Community Center.
Labor Day early deadlines
The Hartley Sentinel-The Everly/Royal News office will be closed for the Labor Day holiday on Monday, Sept. 4.
Early deadlines will affect next week’s newspaper and the Northwest Iowa Peach. Deadline for ad copy for the Peach is today, Thursday, Aug. 31, while the deadline for ads, news copy and legals for the Sentinel-News is Friday, Sept. 1 at 5 p.m.
Regular hours at Royal library
Hours at the Royal Public Library are Monday, Wednesday, Thursday and Friday, 3-5 p.m.; and Tuesday and Saturday, 9:30-11:30 a.m.
