• Multiple charges filed

Multiple charges were filed following a traffic stop on Sept. 4. The Clay County Sheriff’s Office reported that Edgar Meza, 27, of Spencer, was stopped for allegedly speeding. The deputy reported smelling alcohol as he approached the vehicle.

Following sobriety tests, Meza was arrested and charged with Operating while Intoxicated-2nd Offense and Child Endangerment (two counts). He was also cited for Speeding (97 in a 55 mph zone) and Dark Windows.

• Injured in ATV accident

Emma Holst, 23, of Spencer, was operating a Polaris Trail Boss in the ditch of the 3200 mile of 330th Street, near Lost Island, shortly after 9 a.m. on Sept. 2. According to the Clay County Sheriff’s Office, Holst did not realize how steep the ditch was and lost control of the ATV, which struck a fence on the north side of the road. She was ejected from the vehicle.

Holst was treated on the scene by paramedics and taken by ambulance to Spencer Hospital for treatment of multiple lacerations as a result of coming into contact with a barbed wire fence. The accident remains under investigation.

• Vehicle strikes semi, rolls into ditch

Keith Helmet Rohrs, 57, of Sanborn, was southbound in the 3500 mile of Redwing Avenue at 2:01 p.m. on Sept. 6 when his 2016 Toyota Prius drifted across the centerline and struck the rear axle of a 2007 International 999 tractor/semi-trailer driven by Ryan Edward Petzoldt, 41, of Merrill. The Prius entered the east ditch and rolled several times.

The O’Brien County Sheriff’s Office reported that Rohrs sustained minor/non-incapacitating injuries and was not transported. Damage estimates were $15,000 for the Prius and $10,000 for the tractor/trailer. Rohrs was cited for Driving on Wrong Side of Two-way Highway.
