H-M-S competes at GLR/CL meet

With the War Eagle Conference and state qualifying meets on the horizon, Hartley-Melvin-Sanborn cross country runners competed in the George-Little Rock/Central Lyon Invitational on Oct. 5. The meet was held at the Otter Valley Golf Course.

The Hawk girls placed sixth as a team. Individual results were Lexi Croatt, 22nd, 24:16; Gracie Knobloch, 33rd, 25:41; Jocelyn Abonce, 34th, 25:54; Kamryn Ebel, 36th, 28:11; and Clara Funk, 38th, 29:52.

Sioux Center topped the team standings with 32 points. Okoboji was second with 61 and G-LR/CL scored 65. Other schools with complete teams were West Lyon 85, Boyden-Hull/Rock Valley 101 and H-M-S 154.

George Vargas finished in the Top 10 of the boys' varsity runners. The senior ran a time of 18:42 and placed ninth.

Other results for H-M-S were Ryan Grotluschen, 23rd, 20:32; Damian Dodge, 34th, 21:26. Easton Teal, 46th, 23:47; and Carter Dolphin, 47th, 25:08.

Sioux Center won a tight battle with Okoboji for the team title; the Warriors scored 33 points and the Pioneers finished with 34. They were followed by Sibley-Ocheyedan 69, G-LR/CL 125, H-M-S 133 and B-H/RV 146.

The Hawks' JV runners were Kamrynn Visser, 35th, 32:51; and Moises Gonzales, 26th, 27:22.

The H-M-S middle school runners completed their season at the meet. In the girls' race, Viviana Delacruz was second, 14:38; Ashlynn Verrips placed 20th, 21:42; and Niemi Radtke finished 21st, 21:49.

Boys' results were James Carlin, 11th, 14:09; Karter Zimmer, 20th, 15:30; and Dylan Boynton, 28th, 16:19.

Due to the possibility of rain on Thursday, Oct. 12, the War Eagle Conference cross country meet was moved up to Tuesday. Results of that meet will be reported next week.
