2 H-M-S singers are Opus selections

A pair of Hartley-Melvin-Sanborn vocalists were recently selected to participate in the Opus Honor Choir.

Seventh grader Kate Rodriguez was chosen for the 7-8 Grade Opus Honor Choir, while Emery Cammann was picked as an alternate for the 9th Grade Opus Honor Choir.

Over 2,400 students were nominated by their directors for 720 positions in the four Opus Honor Choirs. Selections were made by means of a recorded audition. Guest conductors of the choirs include Tami Meiners, Carroll Community School District, 5-6 Grade Honor Choir; Thad Wilkins, Mt. Vernon Community Schools, 7-8 Grade Bass Clef Honor Choir; Abby Sheppard, Sioux City Community Schools, 7-8 Grade Treble Clef Honor Choir; and Matt Walker, Iowa City Community School District, 9th Grade Mixed Honor Choir.

The 2023 Opus Honor Choirs will perform at 4 p.m. on Nov. 16 in C.Y. Stephens Auditorium in the Iowa State Center in Ames. The Opus Honor Choir Festival is made possible by the Iowa Choral Directors Association, Inc.

H-M-S students are directed by Kristi Daggett.
