Serving O'Brien & Clay Counties
Some people request funds for every kind deed, seeking to be reimbursed whenever possible. Others give freely without a desire to receive.
Everly local Louie Dehrkhoop is the latter.
Known by many traveling on M27 for his beautiful yard displays and gardens, and by even more for his kind heart and amazing work ethic, Louie is a quintessential "good guy."
North of Barb's Corner you will see his acreage on the west side of the road, with festive yard displays changing with the each holiday and season. He gives passersby something beautiful to look at as they travel on down the road.
The only thing better than the beauty of his yard is the generosity of his heart.
Louie is renowned by locals as the "free pumpkin man" who allows friends, families, churches and Clay Central/Everly Mavericks to grab a beautiful pumpkin free of charge. You pick; he gives.
Now, don't you go dropping in and tapping Louie dry of his pumpkin resources though – we can't let our pumpkin well run empty with overuse. Those close to Louie know if and when they can call. That sort of a friendship is what makes Iowa great and brings people back home.
