Festival of Trees returning in Hartley

The Festival of Trees will be back this year in Hartley on Sunday, Dec. 3. The event will be held at the American Legion Building from 2-5 p.m., with a visit from Santa and kids’ activities planned.

Organizers are asking for decorated tree entries from businesses, classrooms, churches, community groups or families. Participants will need to provide their own tree, whether it be a tabletop or larger. Setup is Dec. 1 or Dec. 2 after 4 p.m.; or Dec. 3 after 12 p.m.

Winners for three categories will get a milk (or coffee) and cookies party. Categories include classroom, business and community.

Winter Wonderland in Everly is Dec. 1-2

Citizens in Everly are gearing up for the town’s annual Winter Wonderland event next weekend.

The Festival of Trees will be held Friday, Dec. 1 at the Hap Ketelsen Community Center thanks to the sponsorship of The Friends of the Everly Public Library. There will be a variety of trees and collections for guests to admire while they wait for Santa and Mrs. Claus’ visit. There will also be a meal served for a free will donation, and the Clay County Countrymen 4-H Club will hold a bake sale. A craft and vendor show will be held the following day on Saturday, Dec. 2.

Several Everly businesses will also hold holiday open houses on Friday. See the ads on Page 2 and Page 3 for complete details.

Busy Sunday planned in Hartley

The holidays will arrive in full force in Hartley on Sunday, Dec. 3.

In addition to the Festival of Trees and visit from Santa and Mrs. Claus, a vendor show, Lions Club Burger Bar, Patch-Eeten House vintage Christmas and light parade will be held.

Mini day camp is Nov. 27 at HPL

ISU Extension and Outreach O’Brien County will be at the Hartley Public Library on Monday, Nov. 27, from 10:30 a.m.-noon. They will have a new presentation for children and youth ages 3-14.

Red’s Catering in downtown Hartley will be serving two specials and a salad bar on Wednesday, Nov. 29.

HLC food pantry

Current hours for the food pantry at Hope Lutheran Church in Everly are Wednesdays, 1-5 p.m. Everyone is allowed to come in and pick out their food, but masks are required.

Tuesday, Nov. 28: Breakfast – Cereal, pop tart (9-12), fruit, juice; Lunch – French bread pizza, romaine salad, corn, apples.

Wednesday, Nov. 29: Breakfast – Breakfast pizza, fruit, juice; Lunch – Softshell taco, lettuce/cheese, tomatoes, red peppers, grapes, bread (9-12).

Thursday, Nov. 30: Breakfast – Pancake and sausage bites, fruit, juice; Lunch – Chicken alfredo, breadstick, green beans, baby carrots, strawberries.

Friday, Dec. 1: Breakfast – Donut, fruit, juice; Lunch – Barbecue pork on bun, tri-taters, baked beans, pears.

Milk is served with each meal. Fruit/veggie bar offered daily.
