• Arrested on drug charges
Norman Escalera, 47, of Peterson, was arrested on Nov. 14 at 3rd Street and Main Street in Peterson, where he was allegedly in possession of methamphetamine and drug paraphernalia.
The Clay County Sheriff’s Office charged Escalera with Possession of a Controlled Substance-Methamphetamine (third offense) and Possession of Drug Paraphernalia. He was held in the county jail on those charges as well as a warrant from Will County, Ill., for Possession of Methamphetamine and Possession of Drug Paraphernalia.
• Seriously injured in crash
John Newgard, 65, of Milford, was seriously injured in a single-vehicle crash that occurred at 6:45 p.m. on Nov. 18. The Clay County Sheriff’s Office reported that Newgard was northbound on 330th Avenue, north of Ruthven, when he lost control of his 2000 Ford pickup while rounding a curve at 300th Street. The pickup left the road, went into the ditch sideways and rolled.
Newgard was transported by ambulance to Spencer Hospital with serious injuries. According to the report, Newgard was charged with Operating While Intoxicated-2nd Offense.
• Swerves to avoid deer
The Clay County Sheriff’s Office reported that Alexis Amendolare, 22, of Sioux Rapids, was driving a 2010 Lincoln MKS westbound in the 2400 mile of 490th Street on Nov. 17 when she swerved to avoid hitting a deer. The vehicle went into the ditch and struck an embankment.
Amendolare sustained minor injuries. Damage to the vehicle was estimated at $7,000. Amendolare was cited for Failure to Maintain Control.
