Team to compete in Des Moines next week during annual state contest
Members of H-M-S Dance Attack are hunting down some hardware.
The team will perform at the 48th annual Iowa High School and College State Dance Team Championships in Des Moines Nov. 30-Dec. 1. More than 650 routines will be performed at the event, which is held in Wells Fargo Arena, Hy-Vee Hall and the Community Choice Convention Center.
H-M-S Dance Attack will perform in three categories: Novelty Class I, Lights, and Hoopla Class I.
"Every single performance at school is fun, but it's nothing like state," said coach Brittany Dolphin. "The girls perform their best and it's awesome to see their hard work pay off."
Seniors on the 16-member team include Meghan Larson (captain), Kinsey Schirmer, Emma Vollink, Heather Elgersma and Delaney Murphy. H-M-S's trip to Des Moines last year netted plenty of highlights, including a second place finish in Class I Lights and two Division I ratings in Hoopla and Novelty. Murphy also took home a Division II rating in Solo Class III.
Dance Attack will perform on Thursday, Nov. 30 at the following times: Novelty Class I, 4:20 p.m .; Lights, 6:09 p.m .; and Hoopla Class I, 7:09 p.m. Those interested in livestreaming the performances can do so by buying a subscription at http://www.isdtalive.com.
"We're really looking forward to this and our seniors are excited for their last big performance," Dolphin said. "They're really leading this team and emphasizing how important and huge the state competition is."
