HLC food pantry

Current hours for the food pantry at Hope Lutheran Church in Everly are Wednesdays, 1-5 p.m. Everyone is allowed to come in and pick out their food, but masks are required.

Food distribution at Trinity UCC

The Food Bank of Iowa’s mobile pantry program will be conducted on Wednesday, Jan. 17, starting at 4 p.m. at Trinity United Church of Christ in Hartley. The program is available free of charge and geared toward individuals in need of food assistance.

Participants are asked to stay in their vehicles and line up on the east side of the parking lot. The food will be brought to you as you drive under the canopy.

NCC seeks nominees for Alumnus of the Year

Northwest Iowa Community College in Sheldon is seeking nominations for the 2024 Outstanding Alumnus of the Year.

If you know of an NCC alumnus who has done outstanding work in his or her industry, has done exceptional volunteer work, received a prestigious award or obtained some other notable achievement, you are invited to nominate that individual. Accomplishments can be of a personal and/or professional nature.

Complete the Alumnus of the Year nomination form at http://www.nwicc.edu/alumnus-of-the-year/. NCC employees and/or retirees are not eligible for consideration. All nominations must be received by March 1.

The 2024 Outstanding Alumnus of the Year will be recognized during one of NCC’s 2024 Commencement Ceremonies.

‘Coffee & Conversation’ starts Jan. 18 at SPL

Iowa State University Extension and Outreach and the Spencer Public Library will host a monthly “Coffee & Conversation” group at the library throughout 2024.

Each month a different topic of interest will be covered. Attendance is free and open to the public.

The first coffee group will be held Thursday, Jan. 18, at 2 p.m. The topic will be organization of the household and food waste.

Hours at the Royal Public Library are Monday, Wednesday, Thursday and Friday, 3-5 p.m .; and Tuesday and Saturday, 9:30-11:30 a.m.

Healthcare scholarship, loan programs offered

Applications are being accepted for the Bennie B. and Ernestine F. Shine Scholarship, the Adam J. Anderson Scholarship, and the Cornwall Loan Program. All programs are designed to help area students pursue healthcare careers.

The Shine scholarship fund, administered by Spencer Hospital, annually awards funds to persons who have completed at least one semester of a nursing or allied health program, such as radiology, therapy programs (respiratory care, speech, physical or occupational), medical technology, laboratory tech, paramedic training and pharmacy. These programs are not intended to fund individuals pursuing a degree in medicine, dentistry, physician assistant or veterinary science.

The Adam J. Anderson scholarship fund, administered by Spencer Hospital, annually awards funds to persons pursuing education and training to become certified EMS providers (EMT through Paramedic).

The Ruth Cornwall Loan Program was created by Wilson Cornwall in memory of his wife, Ruth, and with a desire to help local people interested in receiving healthcare education. To accomplish this, a low-interest loan program was created.

The application deadline for the Shine and Adam J. Anderson scholarships and the Cornwall loan is March 31. Recipients will be notified of their award in May. Applications are available on the Spencer Hospital Website at http://www.spencerhospital.org/scholarships.
