Serving O'Brien & Clay Counties
After a few weather-related postponements, Clay Central/Everly Elementary students last week were finally able to thank a vital piece of the Maverick Community – the Clay County Sheriff's Office.
Students invited the department to the school where all gathered in the gym for morning free-play. The youngsters were thrilled when the deputies joined them in a game of knockout as the rest of the school trickled into the gym.
After an intense match, CC/E staff members Iesha Toft and Michelle Huntress said a few words about the impact the Clay County Sheriff's Office has on the CC/E community and school district. They thanked the deputies for their selfless service to their school and community before students came forward with donuts and a thank you plaque honoring the squad for their continued protection and care of the Mavericks.
The children thoroughly enjoyed their time with the sheriff's department. Since then, Lt. Casey Timmer has dropped in to play more games of knockout and teach students how to properly throw balls, etc., as he "starts his day off in the best way" hanging out with the Mavericks.
