First Hartley Legion fish fry is Friday

The Hartley American Legion Family has announced its schedule for Friday night fish fries: Feb. 23, March 8 and March 22.

Proceeds from the meals benefit the projects of the Legion Family. See the ad on Page 9 for more details.

Daycare fundraiser is March 9

The Hartley Community Daycare Center will hold its annual fundraiser on Saturday, March 9. This year’s entertainment is The Mitch Gordon Band.

The Hartley Community Center will hold its VIP Supper on Saturday, April 6. This year’s entertainment features magical comedy with Alan Sands.

CC/E annual fish fry

Clay Central/Everly will host its annual fish fry fundraiser on Friday, March 22, in Royal. A family carnival will also be held.

HLC food pantry

Current hours for the food pantry at Hope Lutheran Church in Everly are Wednesdays, 1-5 p.m. Everyone is allowed to come in and pick out their food, but masks are required.

Eggs & Issues forum is Saturday

The Spencer Chamber will host the second Eggs & Issues forum with local state lawmakers on Saturday, Feb. 24 from 9-10:30 a.m. Constituents from around the region are invited to express concerns about legislation before these elected officials.

All forums are held in the Council Chambers of Spencer City Hall, 101 W 5th St. The third and final session will be held on Saturday, March 23.

Invited to attend are local house and senate representatives along with state and national government elected officials.

Bald Eagle Day March 2 at PHC

The O’Brien County Conservation Board invites the public to the Prairie Heritage Center to experience a live bald eagle on Saturday, March 2. Christina Roelofs from the Nishnabotna Conservation Foundation will present a program about the bald eagle at 2 p.m.

Regular hours at Royal library

Hours at the Royal Public Library are Monday, Wednesday, Thursday and Friday, 3-5 p.m.; and Tuesday and Saturday, 9:30-11:30 a.m.

Apple tree pruning workshop at OC

An area apple tree pruning workshop will provide hands-on tips and tricks from an expert apple orchardist.

Northwest Iowa Master Gardeners will host a pruning workshop with second generation apple orchard operator Chuck Nystrom. Nystrom is the owner of the Ocheda Apple Orchard located just south of Worthington, Minn. He manages the 30-acre orchard started by his father and has been operated by the family for almost 60 years. The current 5,000 trees in a dozen-and-a-half varieties were bred by Nystrom.

The workshop will be held Thursday, Feb. 29 at 6:30 p.m., at the ISU Extension and Outreach office in Orange City, 400 Central Avenue Northwest, Suite 700.

Nystrom will demonstrate pruning techniques and talk about the best tools to use and how to keep them at their best.

This workshop is free and open to the public, but registration is requested. Please phone (712) 737-4230 so seating and materials can be prepared for everyone.
