• Arrested after high-speed pursuit

A pursuit that began in Spencer ended with the driver being taken into custody and facing several charges.

According to the report, a Spencer police officer attempted to stop a vehicle for a traffic violation at 9:30 p.m. on Feb. 13 in the 900 block of East 12th Street. The driver attempted to evade officers at speeds near 100 mph, with the vehicle headlights turned off. A short time later a deputy with the Clay County Sheriff’s Office located the vehicle overturned in a ditch in the 3100 block of 230th Avenue.

The driver, Adrian Frakes, 20, of Spencer, was located a short distance from the where the vehicle was located. He was charged with Possession of Marijuana, Eluding, Driving Under Suspension, Reckless Driving, Failure to Use Headlights When Required, Failure to Maintain Control, Failure to Obey Stop Signs (three counts), No Insurance and Speeding. Frakes was held in the county jail on $5,000 bond.

• Calumet home damaged by fire

The Calumet Fire Department responded to a report of smoke coming from a home at 306 South Morse Avenue in Calumet, at 8:05 p.m. on Feb. 14. Despite no one being in the house, items stored on an electric stove were burned up. The fire department suspects a dog in the house may have somehow turned on one of the burners.

A wall next to the stove was opened to make sure no fire was inside. The house sustained significant smoke damage and is believed to be uninhabitable. No one was injured.

• Cited after accident in Royal

The Clay County Sheriff’s Office investigated an accident that occurred Feb. 12 on Main Street in Royal. The report states that a pickup driven by Roger Zieman, 83, of Royal, allegedly sideswiped a legally parked car on Main Street and then backed into another legally parked vehicle before leaving the scene.

Zieman was cited the following day for Driving with a Suspended License and Leaving the Scene of an Accident.
