• Hartley firemen assist at field fire
The Hartley Fire Department assisted Sanborn firemen at a field fire on Feb. 29. The report stated the fire started near the Sanborn tree dump and spread due to strong winds.
It is believed the wind ignited a fire in the tree dump, which had been smoldering, and blew an ember into the nearby field. About 30 acres of corn stubble were burned. The Primghar Fire Department also assisted at the fire.
The Sanborn department was also called to a garage fire in Sanborn at the same time. Firemen from Sheldon responded to help extinguish the blaze which destroyed the building and personal items stored in it. There were no vehicles inside.
