A memorial service for Joan R. Fear will be held at 10 a.m. Saturday, March 9, 2024, at the Warner Funeral Home in Spencer. Visitation will be held from 9 a.m. until service time. Interment will be in Riverside Cemetery at Spencer. Warner Funeral Home is assisting with the arrangements.
Joan Rae (Fick) Fear was born Feb. 9, 1934 to Herman and Alma (Hirt) Fick in Hartley. She attended school in Hartley. She loved music and playing the piano. In high school she was the bass drummer in the marching band. She graduated from Hartley High School as Valedictorian in 1952.
She married Dawain Fear on June 30, 1957. They were blessed with two children, Cathy Jo and Craig Steven. Spencer was home for many years. Joan enjoyed spending time with family, playing cards, music and crossword puzzles.
Joan worked at Hartley Medical Center her entire career, retiring on Aug. 29, 2003, after 51 years of service. After retirement she volunteered at Spencer Municipal Hospital.
Joan departed this life on Thursday, Feb. 29, 2024, surrounded by her beloved family. Preceding her in death were her parents; loving husband, Dawain; and brother, Arvid Fick.
She is survived by her daughter, Cathy Petersen, of Lincoln, Neb.; her son, Craig and his wife, Debbie, of West Des Moines; her grandchildren: Ryan Fear and his wife, Emily, of Mountlake Terrace, Wash.; Michael Fear, of Urbandale; and Catelyn (Petersen) Meysenburg and her husband, Nick, of Omaha, Neb.; and her great-grandchildren: Beau and Hadley Meysenburg and Adeline Fear.
In lieu of flowers, the family asks that memorial gifts be made in Joan’s memory to the Spencer Regional Healthcare Foundation.
