• Arrested on forgery charge
Javier Perez Escobar, 21, of Worthington, Minn., was arrested on March 5 on a valid O’Brien County warrant. Perez Escobar was arrested by an Iowa State Trooper.
The report stated that a search of Perez Escobar by a deputy from the O’Brien County Sheriff’s Office discovered a California identification bearing the name of another individual. A check of the bar code on the back of the ID indicated the valid California driver’s license had been issued to another individual. Perez Escobar denied knowing either person from California and stated that the ID card was given to him by a friend to be used to gain employment.
Perez Escobar was charged with Forgery, a class D felony. A preliminary hearing is scheduled for March 26.
• Juveniles accused of vandalism
Two juveniles have been accused of vandalism following an investigation of an incident on Feb. 25 in Royal. The Clay County Sheriff’s Office took the two suspects into custody on March 5. They were cited into juvenile court for Burglary-3rd degree and Criminal Mischief-3rd and 5th degree.
• 2 injured in accident near Sheldon
Two persons received minor injuries in an accident which occurred at 4:54 p.m. on March 6.
The O’Brien County Sheriff’s Office reported that Renee Margaret Sterler, 52, of Sanborn, was westbound on U.S. Highway 18/320th Street, and was following a vehicle driven by Jonathan Kenneth Rozeboom, 26, of Sheldon. Sterler failed to notice that Rozeboom was slowing down in order to turn left onto Oak Hill Avenue. Her vehicle started to overtake the Rozeboom vehicle and struck it on the driver’s side. Rozeboom’s 2001 Ford F150 came to rest in the southwest corner of the intersection just into the ditch, and Sterler’s 2011 Chevrolet Tahoe came to rest west of the intersection on the south shoulder of 320th Street.
Both drivers were transported to Sanford Sheldon Medical Center by Sheldon Ambulance. Damage to the Sterler vehicle was estimated at $15,000 and damage to the Rozeboom vehicle was listed at $5,000.
