Everly firefighters hosting breakfast
The Everly Firefighter’s Association will host its annual breakfast fundraiser on Sunday, April 28 from 8 a.m.-1 p.m., at the fire station.
Free will donations will be accepted. Proceeds go towards the new fire truck and equipment. See the ad on Page 7 for more details.

HPL poetry contest
The Hartley Public Library is sponsoring a poetry contest, “Write from the Hart.” Submit a poem of your style and subject for a chance to win a $35 Amazon gift card and publication in the Sentinel-News.
One winner from each age group (teens 13-17 and adults 18 and over) will be selected and notified in May. Entry and guideline forms may be obtained at the library. Entries will be accepted until Tuesday, April 30.

Free kids’ fishing clinic in Spencer
The Iowa Great Lakes Fishing Club will host a free kids’ fishing clinic on Wednesday, May 1, at Stolley’s Pit in Spencer. The event is open to children ages 6-15.
A fishing contest will be held with prizes given to those who catch the longest fish. See the ad on Page 8 for more details.
National Day of Prayer at SPLC
St. Paul’s Lutheran Church in Hartley will host two brief prayer/praise services for America in honor of the National Day of Prayer on Thursday, May 2. All are invited to attend.
The first service will be held from 7-7:30 a.m. and the second will be held from 7-7:30 p.m. (bilingual).
Those who attend are invited to bring their family and friends. Light refreshments will be served at the conclusion of each service.
Evening of discovery at HKCC in Everly
The Everly Public Library will host Mark Andersen for an evening of historical information and discovery at 6 p.m. Monday, May 6, at the Hap Ketelsen Community Center in Everly.
Andersen is the archaeologist at the Sanford Museum in Cherokee. He will be covering the history of northwest Iowa and Clay County, referencing dates back as far as 13,000 years.
Prom grand march
The community is invited to the Hartley-Melvin-Sanborn High School prom grand march on Saturday, April 27 at 7 p.m. Doors at the gym open at 6:30 p.m., and a free will offering will be accepted.

Tuesday, April 30: Breakfast – Mini cinnis, fruit, juice; Lunch – Mandarin orange chicken and rice, broccoli/cauliflower, pineapple, bread (9-12).

Hours at the Royal Public Library are Monday, Wednesday, Thursday and Friday, 3-5 p.m.; and Tuesday and Saturday, 9:30-11:30 a.m.

HLC food pantry
Current hours for the food pantry at Hope Lutheran Church in Everly are Wednesdays from 1-3 p.m. Everyone is allowed to come in and pick out their food.
Clay County Treasurer’s Office closed April 25
The Clay County Treasurer’s Office will be closed on Thursday, April 25, from 8 a.m.-4:30 p.m. Staff will be attending district training.
